Ecuador Language Learning Journey - Planning for 2017

Puentes is considering offering different options for 1-week Language Learning Journeys to explore the culture, foods, music, and incredible terrain of Ecuador in 2017. We are planning for explorers aged 10 and above (children accompanied by at least one parent) who want to speak Spanish (at least part of the time, ideally most of the time). The following are the options and pricing from the 2016 season, minor adjustments may be required for 2017:

Option 1 - Quito, cloud forest, beach, whale watching

  • Day 1, Sat: Arrival in Quito, transfer to hotel – Hotel San Francisco de Quito
  • Day 2, Sun: Colonial Quito (walking tour) + cable car (viewpoint, short hikes) – Hotel San Francisco de Quito (BL)
  • Day 3, Mon: Visit interactive open-air Equator museum / continue to Mindo cloud forest (butterfly farm, zipline, chocolate tasting) – El Carmelo de Mindo (BLD)
  • Day 4, Tue: Mindo (waterfall hike) / Quito – Hotel San Francisco de Quito (BL)
  • Day 5, Wed: Fly to Manta, visit Montecristi and/or Pile (hat weaving) + Los Frailes (swim, relax) – La Terraza (BLD)
  • Day 6, Thu: Isla de la Plata with whale watching (hike, snorkel) – La Terraza (BLD)
  • Day 7, Fri: Agua Blanca (archaeological site, thermal baths) / afternoon flight to Quito – Hotel San Francisco de Quito (BL)
  • Day 8, Sat: Departure home (B)

Option 1 Price $1450 per person plus airfare from US

Los Frailes

Option 2– Amazon rain forest, Indigenous culture

  • Day 1, Sat: Arrival in Quito, transfer to hotel – Hotel San Francisco de Quito
  • Day 2, Sun: Otavalo highlands (visit waterfall, Andean weavers and musicians, Andean healer) – Las Palmeras Inn (BLD)
  • Day 3, Mon: Otavalo markets (spend time at markets) / visit Quitsato Sundial / Quito – Hotel San Francisco de Quito (BL)
  • Day 4, Tue: Fly to Lago Agrio, Cuyabeno Reserve (nature hike) – Samona Lodge (BLD)
  • Day 5, Wed: Amazon Lodge (hikes, community visit, swimming at lake) – Samona Lodge ((BLD)
  • Day 6, Thu: Amazon Lodge (hikes, night walk) – Samona Lodge (BLD)
  • Day 7, Fri: Fly back to Quito late afternoon – Hotel San Francisco de Quito (BL)
  • Day 8, Sat: Departure home (B)

Option 2 Price $1200 per person plus airfare from US

 

Both options include airfare for domestic flights and airport transfers, accommodations in double occupancy, transport during tours, certified tour guide, most meals (B breakfast, L lunch, D dinner), all entrance fees to museums/parks.

As an idea of airfare pricing, from Boise to Quito, Ecuador, as of January, 2016, was priced from between $850 - $1000 per person.
